Today is launch day for #BBNbloggers. Exciting!!!! With #BBNbloggers we aim to share our experiences and inspire members...and non members!!
Over the week we will look to introduce our bloggers to you.
First up I thought it would be good to give you an insight into my world...
Lauren- BBN Officer
How long have you been a member?
I am currently playing club level, and have played netball all my life (20 years??). I have played at various levels including district and dabbled with national.
Have you always been sporty?
I have indeed. It was always my favorite subject in school. I have danced (ballet, believe it or not!! and a bit of Irish), I have played tennis, football, badminton, basketball (went for trials with a highly acclaimed club, and the coach gave me the option of either basketball or netball...) and been part of an athletics team.
Who or what motivated you?
I just loved running about back then. Probably the same now, but certainly not as fast!
How often do you take part/train/do your sport each week? and do you do it part of a club/team?
With club I train once a week, and have a game usually every 2nd week. I do like to do my own training out with this as well, so couple of gym sessions, extra shooting practice at the weekend. I like training with others, it keeps me motivated (and i`m a little competitive!!) I love training with my team, as we have a lot of laughs which makes it enjoyable. Usually caught laughing during our games as well... oops (sorry coach!)
How do you feel when you are playing netball?
I love it! I feel free. Its the only time I focus on whats happening there and then. I love the challenge of bettering yourself, I love being in a game and working out how to play against your opponents. I love setting myself challenges within a game. I love taking everything from training and putting it into the game. I am currently captain of my team and I love leading them, (hopefully) inspiring them and making sure they are enjoying what they are doing.
How has netball enhanced your life?
I love to talk and laugh, so netball provides the fun environment to do all that in. Nothing better than playing something you love with people that make you laugh and smile. I've had so many different and awesome experiences within netball that have shaped many aspects of my life.
What are your biggest motivations?
I love being with my friends and team mates, so being with them and having a laugh is probably one of my biggest motivations. I also like learning new things and improving my performance (especially if my coach reads this). During a match my biggest motivation as an individual is just to be effective and to enjoy it! (and to have 100% shooting... from the edge of the circle. I prefer shooting further out, there is no pressure there!) As captain of a team it is to make sure we are supporting and encouraging one another the whole way through. And enjoying it.
Who inspires you and why?
Laura Geitz (Aussie Diamonds captain) inspires me. I love the way she leads her team both on and off the court, I love how her team view her. And her interceptions are top class! And of course, my friends and family... putting up with my netball chat (and chat in general!)
What has been your greatest achievement so far?
As a netballer - excluding the national side of if and team selections (they were great!!), there was a game a few years back, and at this point I was playing in defence. My Goal keeper had just fell off the court injured, so I was left with two attackers to defend. The WA had a free pass and the GS and GA split themselves in the circle. I put more pressure on the front player as this would pressure the WA into making the pass to the player at the back... and of course she did... I started running back, leaped and pulled off a Laura Geitz interception!!! It was awesome! I will always remember this.
What are the three best things you love about netball? And the worst?!
I love the feeling I get when I play. I love being part of a team and I love watching others play full of enthusiasm and passion, and you can see it in their face that they are just absolutely loving the moment.
The worst? when my coach makes me play as a holding shooter!!!!! And when she brings the spots out in training!!
If someone was thinking about taking up netball but doubted herself or felt unsure about being judged, what would you say to them?
I would say "come with me, we`ll have a laugh"... I would also say, netball is for everyone, never let anyone tell you or make you feel like you cant do it. I would then describe how playing netball makes me feel and hopefully this would be enough for him/her to realise they should be on a netball court!
How would you describe/promote BBN?
BBN is amazing, it allows people to experience netball the way I see netball - full of fun, friends and loads of laughter. Even if you are just a beginner, or not sure if netball is your thing, never under estimate the power of awesome, enthusiastic, passionate people who just love playing netball. And that is exactly what BBN is all about. You guys are awesome!
Do you have a sporting or life motto?
I dont have a set motto, but I do like lots of laughter and smiles so as long as there is that then life is good :)
